About this site

What this site is

whatsmyip.fyi shows you the public IP address your request arrived from, the approximate location and network behind it, and a set of network tools that explain the rest. It is an independent project, not a front for a VPN company or a data broker.

Who it is for

People checking whether a VPN is on, whether a port forward works, or why a site thinks they are in the wrong country. Developers who want one address in plain text and a keyless JSON endpoint. Anyone who wants a plain answer instead of a security scare.

Why it exists

The established "what is my IP" sites are slow, cluttered with fear-bait copy, and weak on the things that actually matter now: IPv6, a clean API, and honest explanations of what an address does and does not reveal. This site takes the opposite position. The number is the product. Advertising never sits above it. No page tells you that you are "exposed" in order to sell you a subscription.

What we promise

• We keep network-level statistics, never your address. Read the privacy policy for the exact list.
• Geolocation is always labelled approximate, because it is derived from routing, not from your device.
• No accounts, no tracking cookies, no fear-bait, no invented security scores, no interstitials over the answer.
• The /json response shape is versioned and will not break under you.
• AI crawlers are allowed. Everything is server rendered and quotable.

How it is paid for

Eventually by display advertising below the fold on guides and tool pages, and by affiliate links to VPN providers that appear only after a result that genuinely calls for one. Ad scripts load after the page does, and in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they do not load until you consent. Both are disclosed on the disclosure page. The API stays free and keyless at the published limits.

What is not built yet

Plenty. The tools page lists every route on the plan and marks which phase it belongs to, rather than hiding the gaps. If a tool you want is missing, say so.
