Terms of use

Short version: use the tools on systems you own or have permission to test, stay inside the published limits, and do not turn this site into someone else's problem.

Who you are agreeing with

These terms are between you and the operator of whatsmyip.fyi. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not, stop using the site.

The service

whatsmyip.fyi shows you the public IP address your request arrived from and runs network diagnostic tools. It is provided free, without a service level, and without warranty. Results are best effort. Geolocation is approximate and frequently wrong at city level; never use it as evidence of where a person is.

Acceptable use

  • Test what you own. The port checker, ping, traceroute and reachability tools may be pointed at your own address, or at a system you have written permission to test. Nothing else.
  • No scanning. No port ranges, no sweeps across address space, no automation designed to enumerate third-party hosts. One target, one port, per request.
  • No proxying. Do not use any endpoint here to relay traffic, obscure the origin of a request, or reach a network you could not reach yourself.
  • No surveillance. Do not use this site to track, locate or profile another person. We do not build IP logger links and we will not help you make one.
  • Stay inside the limits. The published rate limits below are the contract. Do not distribute a workload across addresses to evade them.
  • No resale of the free API as your own. Building on the keyless API is welcome, including in commercial products. Reselling it as a competing IP API is not.

Published rate limits

EndpointLimit per addressWhat happens next
/ip, /json, /ip.md, /api/v1/ip60 per minute, 1,000 per day429 with Retry-After

Ping and traceroute10 per day, one at a timeA bot challenge after 5
Speed test3 runs per dayHard stop
We can block you. We keep a blocklist of source ranges that abuse the tools and a blocklist of targets whose owners have asked to be excluded from the port and probe tools. Ask for either at abuse@whatsmyip.fyi and include the address or range.

Reporting abuse

If traffic from this site reached your network and you believe it was abusive, write to abuse@whatsmyip.fyi with the timestamp, the target address and the port. We can act on a report like that from the counters we keep against a network range, without ever retaining a visitor's address.

Intellectual property

The site's code and written content belong to the operator of whatsmyip.fyi. Data returned about an address belongs to nobody in particular; registry, routing, IEEE OUI and provider data carry their own attribution, shown on the pages that use it. You may quote our results with a link back.

Liability

The site is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from use of the site or reliance on its results. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes and contact

We may change these terms; the review date below records when. Questions go to hello@whatsmyip.fyi.
