Autonomous systems

An autonomous system is one network that decides its own routing policy and announces its address blocks to everyone else in BGP. Every public address belongs to exactly one of them. These 100 are the ones that most addresses people look up belong to, grouped by what the network is for.

Cloud and platform

10 networks

Networks that host other people’s services. An address here belongs to a server, not to a person.

Content delivery

8 networks

Networks built to serve cached content close to the visitor. One address is answered from many cities.

Hosting

9 networks

Networks that rent servers by the hour or the month. Common origin for scrapers and for VPN exits.

Transit and backbone

12 networks

Networks that carry other networks’ traffic. You rarely hold one of their addresses; you pass through them.

Consumer and business ISPs

51 networks

Networks that sell connections to homes and offices. Most residential addresses live here.

Mobile carriers

10 networks

Networks that carry phone traffic. Nearly all of them share few public addresses among many subscribers.

Why this list is short

There are more than a hundred thousand autonomous systems in the routing table. Publishing a page for each one would produce a hundred thousand near-identical pages, which helps nobody and which search engines correctly treat as filler. We publish a batch, watch how it is indexed, and add the next batch only when the current one earns its place.

Any AS number outside the batch still resolves. Try AS13335, or put a number straight in the URL. Those pages carry the same live data and a noindex tag.
